ProTool Build Maintenance Guide
ProTool Maintenance
Skid and Trailer Maintenance Guide
A quick-reference schedule for ProTool pressure washing, soft washing and pure water rigs. Intervals are "whichever comes first" and are good starting points; heavy use, dust or hard water means sooner. Your component manuals have the full detail.
Last updated October 29, 2026
Before you service anything: shut off the engines, let the burner and coil cool, squeeze the gun to relieve pump pressure, and turn off the battery disconnect.
Every day before you start
End of every day
Keep a log. Note engine hours and each service. It keeps you on schedule and supports any warranty claim.

Pump won't prime? Check for an empty tank or a pickup filter that isn't fully under the liquid before taking anything apart. Then check strainer O-rings and fittings for air leaks.
Pure water (HydroPanel RO/DI)

Winter and storage
If it can freeze, winterize. Freeze damage is not covered by the warranty.
- Run RV antifreeze through the pressure washer pump, soft wash pump, metering manifold, reels and hoses until it comes out the ends.
- Drain water tanks, inlet hoses and the inlet filter housings.
- Keep the HydroPanel above freezing. If it must stay on the rig, drain it and protect the membranes with preservative.
- Add fuel stabilizer and run the engines a few minutes; drain water from the burner fuel filter.
- Keep the battery on a maintainer.
Maintenance FAQ
How often should I change the oil in a ProTool pressure washer pump?
On ProTool belt-drive pressure washers, change the pump oil after the first 50 hours, then every 300 hours or every 3 months, whichever comes first. Check the level and color before each use.
What oil does a pressure washer pump take?
ProTool recommends 30W non-detergent pump oil for the pressure washer pumps on its skids and trailers. Don't use engine oil in the pump.
Why is my pump oil milky?
Milky oil means water is getting into the oil. On a ProTool pressure washer pump it usually points to worn seals; on the Comet soft wash pump on a ProTool skid it usually means a torn diaphragm. Stop using it, change the oil and have the seals or diaphragms checked.
What oil do the Honda engines on ProTool rigs use, and how often should I change it?
The Honda GX690 and GX200 engines on ProTool rigs use SAE 10W-30. Change it after the first 20 hours, then every 100 hours or 6 months. On the GX690, change the oil filter with every oil change.
How tight should the belt be on a belt-drive pressure washer?
On a ProTool belt-drive pressure washer, the belt should deflect no more than about 1/2 inch under thumb pressure. Check it after the first 10 hours, then weekly. A squeal under load means it is slipping.
How often should I flush a ProTool HydroPanel?
Flush the HydroPanel RO for 1–2 minutes before each job and 3–5 minutes after, with the DI valve off and the flush valve fully open. Daily flushing is what makes ProTool RO membranes last.
When should I replace the DI resin in a ProTool HydroPanel?
Replace or refill the ProTool DI cartridge or resin when the output reads 10 TDS.
How long do ProTool RO membranes last?
ProTool RO membranes last 2–3 years with daily flushing. Skipping flushes can ruin a membrane in months.
Can I leave bleach in my soft wash pump overnight?
No. On a ProTool soft wash system, run fresh water through the pump, metering manifold and hose at the end of every day. Bleach left sitting eats seals and diaphragms.
Should I grease the swivels on ProTool hose reels?
Only lightly, once a year. Over-greasing blows out the swivel seals on ProTool hose reels. Replace a swivel that leaks or wobbles.
How do I winterize a ProTool skid or trailer?
Run RV antifreeze through the pressure washer pump, soft wash pump, metering manifold, reels and hoses; drain the tanks and inlet filters; keep the HydroPanel above freezing; and keep the battery on a maintainer.
Does skipping maintenance affect my ProTool warranty?
It can. The ProTool warranty does not cover damage from poor maintenance, freezing or chemicals left in the system. Keeping a simple log of hours and service supports any warranty claim.
